SuperSonic Studio-S3

The SuperSonic Studio (S3) was founded in 2006 to teach whip artistry in the Inland Pacific Northwest and introduce it as a year round activity that can be enjoyed by the whole family. If you're an actor or a martial artist, a new whip user or have experience, S3 believes that the solid foundation at the beginning of our training will lead to a lifetime of enjoyment and open new doors to any aspiring whip artist, both personal and professional. Small class sizes or one on one instruction create a professional and positive learning environment. A systematic teaching approach based on physical and systemic fundamentals allows students to see their skills build on one another over time and eventually begin the process of self teaching. Based out of Missoula, MT the studio is fully mobile anywhere in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. James is also available conduct a seminar or perform a whip demonstration at your special event. We view the bullwhip as a series of systems and structures. Each system builds upon the others to create a self sustaining environment where further knowledge can be gained from the structures and systems themselves The foundational knowledge of our whip artistry and application is based on universal physical principals and martial concepts shared across systems and styles . Any of your current knowledge and understanding is applied to understanding the S3 structure and where gaps remain we show how application can support further self teaching. The S3 system is based on and directly influenced by the DeLongis Rolling Loop system and journey of three decades understanding it. We distill our methods into the image at the left and how all elements work to create a whole. It seems esoteric from the outside but anyone can apply this image to their understanding of whip artistry and the Maxwell Triangle becomes an invaluable memory aide.

S3 views the whip as a marital tool, not a weapon. The primary purpose of the tool is area denial across multiple ranges and giving an adversary changes to rethink their current decisions. This understanding comes with some guidelines and presuppositions but the joy is in the exploration of these ideas.
