One thing I'd like to point out is that I'm still learning. Learning is everything when you develop a skill. Pushing yourself out side of your comfort zone will allow you to explore more and expand that comfort zone. In my whip skill set this pushing includes working a stock whip, Australian style cracking, and more advanced compound throws. It's tough for me to push to learn these things but it makes me a better whip artist. If someone shows up with their grandfathers stockwhip and want to use it, I need to be prepared to teach them if only basics, how that whip was used. Because it is a very focused style of whip work. The base of all my current whip work is the DeLongis system and it's rolling loop. One thing I enjoy is it's idea of progressive teaching, where one thing leads to another in a logical and sequential fashion. So I thought I would apply that to a figure I call "Crossing 8's". Now there is two ways to do it, a right way and a wrong way. I've been doing it the wrong way. The figure consists of fast figure 8's on both sides of the body. Where I was going wrong was on my dominant side it was a front/back figure 8 but on my non dominant side it was a back/front fast figure 8. So I skimmed some video and figured it out. And I started from the ground to get it right. A few notes on the video. My right hip is killing me. I had surgery on it in 2000 and the colder weather is playing havoc with it so my triangular foot work is all wrong. I also apologize for moving off of center as the clips progress. But this is not one of my Youtube videos. This is a video showing my learning process and I hope you enjoy it.
I'm the founder and CEO of SuperSonic Consulting, my attempt to teach whips to others in a structured format. I love teaching my friends and associates but it has become of dream of mine to teach everyone and spread the gospel of whip artistry around the Pacific Northwest. I'm a son, a boyfriend, an instructor, an engineer, a learner and a dreamer.
