James D. Maxwell as been cracking whips for more then two decades. A native Montanan he was enthralled by the Indiana Jones films and the use of the whip. At the age of nine he began his study of the history, use, and application in both combat and non-combative roles. By 2006 he began teaching his close associates the whip and decided to expand and share his knowledge to the public at large and founded the SuperSonic Studio. With a martial background that includes ranking in Combat Hapkido, Taekwondo, Judo, and American Kenpo, James uses his knowledge of these and other martial systems to teach and explore the world of the whip. Among his influences are Anthony and Mary DeLongis, who teach the DeLongis Performance and Combat Arts at their LA Ranch, Kendall Wells, one of Anthony's students with whom James as trained, Louie Foxx, maker of many of James' whips and Sibok Chris Crews, who trains James in American Kenpo. When not teaching at supersonic speeds James can be found operating steam engines of all types and overseeing the World Famous Flying Circus Stunt Team.

The rolling loop style, a signature of action coordinator Anthony DeLongis allows for maximum energy transference to the whip with minimum user effort, pinpoint accuracy for targeting and wrapping, and built-in safety for the whip user and those around them. James prefers this style for most of his work and teaching.
